The following is a list of what is included in the item above. Click the test(s) below to view what biomarkers are measured along with an explanation of what the biomarker is measuring.
Also known as: CBC, CBC includes Differential and Platelets, CBC/PLT w/DIFF, Complete Blood Count (includes Differential and Platelets)
NOTE: Ulta Lab Tests provides CBC test results from Quest Diagnostics as they are reported. Often, different biomarker results are made available at different time intervals. When reporting the results, Ulta Lab Tests denotes those biomarkers not yet reported as 'pending' for every biomarker the test might report. Only biomarkers Quest Diagnostics observes are incorporated and represented in the final CBC test results provided by Ulta Lab Tests.

The Kidney Health - Basic panel contains 3 tests with 81 biomarkers .
Brief Description: The Kidney Health - Basic panel is a crucial set of tests designed to evaluate kidney function and overall health. This panel comprises a Complete Blood Count with Differential and Platelets, a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, and a Urinalysis Complete. These tests offer a comprehensive look at the body's filtration system, checking for signs of kidney disease, infection, and other potential health issues.
Collection Method: Blood Draw and Urine Collection
Specimen: 4 mL Whole Blood , 1 mL Serum
, and 10 mL Urine
Test Preparation: Fasting is preferred, but not required. Fasting is no food or drinks other than water for at least 8 hours before collection.
Urine specimen should be collected mid-stream to minimize contamination and improve accuracy.
Medication Interactions: Use of STRENSIQ may interfere with this lab test, leading to falsely elevated results. Talk to your healthcare provider about using an alternative test if you are receiving STRENSIQ.
When and Why the Panel May Be Ordered
This panel is typically ordered for individuals showing symptoms of kidney dysfunction, such as swelling, changes in urination patterns, fatigue, or high blood pressure. It's also recommended for those with risk factors for kidney disease, including diabetes, hypertension, or a family history of kidney problems. Regular monitoring through this panel can help catch kidney issues early when they're most treatable.
What the Kidney Health - Basic Panel Checks For
- Complete Blood Count with Differential and Platelets: This test assesses the health and numbers of red and white blood cells and platelets, crucial for identifying anemia, infections, and clotting issues that can affect kidney health.
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel: It evaluates kidney and liver function, blood sugar levels, and electrolyte balance, providing insights into the body's metabolic health and the kidneys' filtering capacity.
- Urinalysis Complete: A detailed analysis of urine that checks for abnormalities like protein, blood, glucose, and signs of infection, offering direct indicators of kidney health and function.
Expanding Kidney Health Insights
For a deeper understanding of kidney health, consider upgrading to more advanced panels:
- Kidney Health - Basic Plus Panel: Adds PTH Intact and Uric Acid tests, enhancing the assessment of bone metabolism and risk for conditions like gout, which can be related to kidney function.
- Kidney Health - Advanced Panel: Builds on the Basic Plus by including Random Urine Creatinine and Vitamin D assessments, offering a broader view of kidney function and overall health.
- Kidney Health - Comprehensive Panel: The most extensive evaluation, adding autoimmune and more detailed metabolic assessments, for those needing an in-depth kidney health analysis.
Conditions and Diseases Detected by the Panel
The Kidney Health - Basic panel can aid in the detection and management of:
- Chronic Kidney Disease: Early identification through changes in blood and urine markers can lead to timely interventions.
- Urinary Tract Infections: Signs of infection in the urinalysis prompt further investigation and treatment.
- Kidney Stones: Abnormalities in urine composition can indicate the presence of stones.
- Electrolyte Imbalances: Insights from the CMP can reveal imbalances that affect kidney function and overall health.
Utilizing Panel Results in Clinical Practice
Healthcare professionals rely on this panel to:
- Diagnose Kidney Conditions: Identifying signs of kidney stress or damage for early intervention.
- Monitor Disease Progression: Tracking changes in kidney function over time, especially in patients with known risk factors.
- Adjust Treatment Plans: Based on test results, treatments can be tailored to address detected kidney issues effectively.
The Kidney Health - Basic panel serves as a foundational tool for assessing kidney function and detecting potential health issues early. By providing a snapshot of the kidneys' filtering ability, blood health, and signs of infection or disease, this panel is instrumental in guiding healthcare decisions, ensuring timely treatment, and promoting kidney health and overall well-being.
