The General Wellness Profile 2 panel contains 10 tests with 48 biomarkers.
Brief Description: The General Wellness Profile 2 is an enhanced health screening package designed to offer a more comprehensive overview of an individual's health status beyond basic wellness checks. This profile integrates essential blood tests to evaluate various aspects of health, including blood cell health, metabolic efficiency, liver function, glucose control, iron metabolism, thyroid function, and more. It's geared towards identifying potential health issues early on and providing a basis for preventive measures or further investigation.
Collection Method: Blood Draw
Specimen Type: Whole Blood Serum
Test Preparation: Patient should be fasting 9-12 hours prior to collection and collection should be performed in the morning.
Specifc to TSH: Specimen collection after fluorescein dye angiography should be delayed for at least 3 days. For patients on hemodialysis, specimen collection should be delayed for 2 weeks.
According to the assay manufacturer Siemens: "Samples containing fluorescein can produce falsely depressed values when tested with the Advia Centaur TSH3 Ultra assay."
This panel is typically ordered as part of an annual health examination or when specific symptoms—such as fatigue, unexpected weight changes, joint pain, or other signs suggesting metabolic imbalances or chronic conditions—necessitate a broader look at one's health. It's particularly useful for individuals with risk factors for diabetes, liver conditions, thyroid disorders, or those seeking a thorough health assessment to guide lifestyle adjustments and medical interventions.
Each test within the General Wellness Profile 2 offers insights into different aspects of health:
CBC (H/H, RBC, Indices, WBC, Plt): Provides a comprehensive look at blood health, indicating potential anemia, infections, and other blood disorders.
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Assesses metabolic function and checks for signs of diabetes, liver disease, kidney dysfunction, and electrolyte imbalances.
Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT): A liver enzyme test indicating liver health and potential liver damage.
Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c): Measures average blood glucose levels over the past three months, screening for diabetes or prediabetes.
Iron Total and Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC): Evaluate iron storage and usage in the body, identifying iron deficiency or overload.
Lipid Panel with Ratios: Assesses risk for cardiovascular diseases by measuring cholesterol levels.
Phosphate (as Phosphorus): Indicates bone and kidney health.
T4 Free and TSH: Screen for thyroid gland disorders, checking hormone production and regulatory processes.
Uric Acid: High levels can suggest gout or kidney issues.
Moving from the General Wellness Profile 2 to the General Wellness Profile 3 introduces an even more detailed examination of one's health. This comprehensive panel adds tests for homocysteine and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) to assess cardiovascular risk, T3 Free for deeper thyroid insight, Vitamin D levels for bone and immune health, and a Complete Urinalysis for kidney function and metabolic health, offering a fuller picture of overall wellness.
The General Wellness Profile 2 can help in detecting:
Diabetes and Prediabetes: Through HbA1c and CMP.
Liver Conditions: Indicated by GGT and components of the CMP.
Thyroid Disorders: Through TSH and Free T4.
Iron-related Disorders: Such as anemia or hemochromatosis, indicated by iron tests.
Healthcare providers use the results to guide preventive care strategies, diagnose underlying conditions, adjust treatments, and monitor the effectiveness of interventions. This tailored approach ensures that each individual receives care that is specific to their unique health profile and needs.
The General Wellness Profile 2 offers a significant step up in preventive health care, enabling individuals to gain deeper insights into their health. By combining a wide range of important health markers, this panel serves as a valuable tool in the early detection of potential health issues, guiding lifestyle changes, and informing medical treatment, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes and quality of life.
