Also known as: Triiodothyronine
Also known as: Free T3, FT3, T3 Free

Also known as: Free T4, FT4, T4 Free
Also known as: Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Thyrotropin
The Thyroid Health - Advanced Lab Panel panel contains 8 tests with 11 biomarkers.
Brief Description: The Thyroid Health - Advanced Lab panel is a comprehensive diagnostic tool designed to offer a detailed evaluation of thyroid function and associated autoimmunity. It comprises eight key tests: T3 Reverse, T3 Total, T3 Uptake, T3 Free, T4 Total, T4 Free, Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies, Thyroglobulin Antibodies, and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). This panel goes beyond basic thyroid function testing to include assessments of reverse T3 levels and thyroid antibodies, providing a more comprehensive view of thyroid health.
Collection Method: Blood Draw
Specimen Type: Serum
Test Preparation: Specifc to TSH: Specimen collection after fluorescein dye angiography should be delayed for at least 3 days. For patients on hemodialysis, specimen collection should be delayed for 2 weeks.
According to the assay manufacturer Siemens: "Samples containing fluorescein can produce falsely depressed values when tested with the Advia Centaur TSH3 Ultra assay."
The Thyroid Health - Advanced Lab panel is typically ordered when healthcare providers suspect complex thyroid issues, autoimmune thyroid diseases, or when initial thyroid function tests yield inconclusive results. It is especially valuable when patients present with a combination of thyroid-related symptoms and signs of autoimmunity, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease. This panel helps in diagnosing and managing thyroid disorders with autoimmune components.
T3 Reverse: Measures reverse T3, a less active form of T3, which can indicate thyroid dysfunction and potential metabolic issues.
T3 Total: Measures the total amount of triiodothyronine (T3) hormone in the blood, including both bound and free forms. T3 plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism and energy production.
T3 Uptake: Assesses the availability of binding proteins for T3, providing information on the capacity to transport T3 in the bloodstream.
T3 Free: Specifically measures the free, unbound T3 hormone, which is biologically active and available for use by the body's cells.
T4 Total: Measures the total amount of thyroxine (T4) hormone in the blood, including both bound and free T4. T4 is a key thyroid hormone involved in regulating metabolism.
T4 Free: Specifically measures the free, unbound T4 hormone, which is the biologically active form available for cellular uptake.
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies: Detects antibodies against thyroid peroxidase, an enzyme involved in thyroid hormone production. Elevated levels may indicate autoimmune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Thyroglobulin Antibodies: Measures antibodies against thyroglobulin, a protein found in the thyroid gland. Elevated levels may suggest autoimmune thyroid conditions.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH): Produced by the pituitary gland, TSH regulates the thyroid's production of T3 and T4. It helps evaluate the overall thyroid status and can indicate an overactive or underactive thyroid.
The Thyroid Health - Comprehensive Lab panel further enhances the evaluation of thyroid health by adding two more thyroid specific tests, thyroxine binding globulin (TBG) and thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI).
The Advanced Lab panel can detect a wide range of thyroid disorders, including autoimmune thyroid diseases (Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease), thyroid hormone imbalances, and conditions associated with elevated reverse T3 levels, which may indicate metabolic issues.
Healthcare professionals use the results of the Advanced Lab panel to diagnose, monitor, and manage complex thyroid disorders. Abnormal findings may lead to further evaluations, including imaging studies, medication adjustments, or referrals to endocrinologists. This panel provides valuable insights into the autoimmune aspects of thyroid diseases and reverse T3 levels, aiding in personalized treatment plans.
The Thyroid Health - Advanced Lab panel offers a comprehensive assessment of thyroid function, including autoimmune aspects, reverse T3 levels, and thyroid antibodies. It plays a pivotal role in diagnosing and managing complex thyroid disorders, providing healthcare professionals with the information needed to tailor treatment plans and improve the overall thyroid health of patients.
